My husband and I are having our 5th wedding anniversary this weekend and I was wanting some ideas to make a perfect cake, but nothing too fancy since we were just going to invite our friends and family over for a cookout and have some drinks. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it so much.

  1. I think you should make a fruit cake

    1 pound butter

1 pound all-purpose flour plus flour for fruit

    10 large eggs

    1 pound dates

    1 pound raisins

    1 pound halved candied cherries

    1 pound chopped candied pineapple

1 pound mixed candied fruit, soaked in brandy at least overnight before using

    brandy

    1/2 teaspoon ginger

    2 teaspoons cinnamon

    1 teaspoon nutmeg

    2 teaspoons ground cloves

    1 teaspoon allspice

    Preparation:

Combine fruits in a large enameled kettle or large bowl; cover with brandy and stir to blend. Cover and let soak at least overnight. Preheat oven to 300°.

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs two at a time, beaten. Add flour which has been sifted and to which has been added spices. Drain fruit; toss with a little flour to lightly coat. Mix well. Prepare loaf pans by greasing then lining with buttered brown paper. Fill 2/3 full with batter and bake for about 3 hours, covering loosely with aluminum foil after 30 minutes to prevent over-browning (do not let the foil touch the cake). Test with cake tester or toothpick after about 2 hours.

    Makes 10 pounds of cake.

    i hope you like it

  2. How about the gallows theme. That's only if you have a sense of humor.

An all black icing cake with black balloons.

  3. Why don't you do a number 5? There are places like WalMart that has baking pans in the shape of a 5, or you can take a square pan and cut the five out yourself. You can always print a large 5 on the computer and use that as the outline so you get it all even.

  4. I always go to www.google.com and serach for cakes and then click the "images" tab and find one that I like then contact a local person to see if they could make that same cake or one similar.

Right now a lot of people are into whimsical cakes or mad hatter cakes. You could search for those and see what you like. They are more contemporary than traditional.

Good luck and congrats on 5 years!

  5. Congrats!  I like using www.allrecipes.com to look for ideas.  Also, if the icing is important, you can google cake decorating for ideas.  If you can't find something and time is limited, look up Pavlova (its a baked meringue crust topped with tons of fresh fruit...it looks beautiful and is not nearly as bad for you).  Have fun!

  6. My local library (main branch) is a wonderful source for cake ideas that are simple to do.  I save cake ideas from magazines and such since I can no longer squeeze those bags any more.
