  4. The school you will be working at will have some material for you.  At my school we have reading, math, science, and social study kits given to us for kindergarten.  These kits usually have an abundance of activities from which you can pick, and usually more than you can use.

Most school districts now have a set curriculum that includes benchmarks that must be taught at each grade level.  On the internet, search for your state's department of education.  You should find information on what you will be teaching.

For instance, the following link will show you a site on the Florida DOE for K-1.  It has a whole set of reading actvities; there is also a set of these activities for 2-3.  They are free for the downloading and have some very good actvities. You can also find the Sunshine State Standards on the FDOE; these are the things that must be taught at the various grade levels in Florida.

Another site that has information for math is the Math Their Way site:

    http://www.center.edu/NEWSLETTER/newslet...

This math information is free and downloadable and very good to use to supplement the kindergarten math curriculum.

Don't go about buying loads of books or downloading gigs of material until you see what the school will provide for you. There are many sites from which you can download materials.  Save time and money by checking out your district's requirements and what they provide for you.

If you are just beginning to teach kindergarten, you will have more than enough to muddle through your first year with the materials provided! Often times the grade level teams work and plan together and share ideas and resources.

  5. Surf the internet, the world will be your oyster.  All you need to do is place the age group in a search and the results will be amazing.

I used the internet as my source for information activities and keeping up to date with trends when I was the director of a Childcare centre.
