I have half the new shower space covered with greenboard but the rest is just bare concrete blocks. The floor has had the tiles removed and is wood. The toilet is right next to the opened space and the sink is next to that. Its a very small space but I am stuck doing this on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Once again, I agree with Doc, don't use the greenboard, really fairly worthless in the shower.  Building code in my area demands that a concrete based substrate must be used in wet areas of the bathroom.  I use Hardi-Backer, but there are other types available as well.  It is great for installing tile or stone, will help to get a very long lasting shower.

Step by step instruction is difficult (actually impossible) without seeing your bathroom and having no way of knowing how your plumbing is set up.

  2. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and ask. That's what they are there for.Good luck.

  3. Your concern must meet the code (space for maneuver),other wise you can not change the location of the features.

  4. First of all you should remove the greenboard.

What you don't state,,, IS shower "Plumbing" already installed? You also don't state your intent for the stall. Tile? A Built in surround? Etc.

If the plumbing and electric exist already, then a permit is likely unnecessary.

Beyond the shower stall, you should consider concrete backer board as a substrate OVER the current wooden floor substrate.

HELP in your case is only suggestions about what to use, opinions about how to install. It seems physical help might be something you can recruit.

I will assume you'll remove the toilet and sink to replace after the fact.
