And is it expensive? Will copper wire work or has it to be ribbon?

  1. You can find copper ribbon in home and garden shops or hardware stores.

  2. TRY COPPER WIRE,theres plenty about

  3. barbed wire aughta do it ;-)

  4. I would say get slug pellets.. there a proven method!

  5. You can get copper tape from garden shops to stick on . In my experience it's a waste of time, I have some copper pots they climb up. Try Outslugs (google it) this DOES work

  6. Maplins sell sticky backed copper tape if that helps...

No idea if it gets rid of slugs though.

Of course there's always ebay ;):

Couldn't find Maplins one on-line, but it's in store, where I live, definitely.

  7. Put elastic bands around them and smear them with grease.

  8. Our local garden centre sells it(Surrey UK) don't know the exact price but it's not over expensive .

  9. I bought mine on ebay - no hassle, delivered by the postman!

  10. Garden centres sell sticky backed copper tape.  Wire would work, but you'd need a number of turns to act as a barrier.

  11. Just as much as slugs enjoy beer, they avoid copper as it can interact with the slime they produce on the surface of their bodies. You can use copper screening and copper foiling to provide barriers to slugs around certain plants and plant beds. Another solution is to mix one part copper sulphate with four parts garden lime dissolved in water. Use this solution around the edges of your garden. This mixture can also be purchased at gardening stores ready made.

Common houshold salt from your larder is another remedy: sprinkle it around the base of your plant pots, especally if they are standing on slug crawling friendly surfaces, the salt WILL kill and or deter them.  A lot cheaper than copper and proprietory brand slug killers.

Don't put the salt on to the compost the plants are growing in, salt is a natural herbicide also.

  12. get slug pellets
