Question:

Where can I get support for a young writer?

My 14 year old child has quite a knack for writing stories, and I'd like to find somewhere outside school where she can send them in, maybe get support on them? I don't want her to do this at school because I know she just won't do it. If anyone knows anything I can do to support this story writing as her mum?

  1. Go online. Their are alot of magazines you can send short stories, poems etc to. We sent one in to Ladies Home Journal for a poem contest they were doing once. Also there are several sites you can enter contests with your writing or send them in to be critiqued or just to post them.

  2. Go to http://writersdigest.com

This is a magazine that has a lot of resources for writers of all ages. They also have a book club that features books that give instruction on how to write, where to sell stories, etc.

One book of interest is the "Writer's Market" which features many magazines and other publications that accept stories from outside sources.

I'm sure there are books there as well for young writers that will give them tips on how to write better.

It is a good place to start to encourage your child in their writing.
