Check Techincal Careers/Solar Energy on your computer...I do believe it takes an internship to get hands on experience before you could get an AA Degree. If they don't require that then do not chose that school as no one will hire you without hands on experience. Good job choice though; that's where we are all headed. GOOD LUCK TO U.!!!

If you are wanting NABCEP training and credits, you can't get it on line. (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners)

I took some classes at the Florida Solar Energy Center to get my credits. NABCEP is worthless in most cases.  If you are not a licensed electrician or have one to work with you the install will be illegal.

A Solar installer has to be a Roofer, an Electrician, a Carpenter and a Contractor.

If you are in an area that is ruled by oil and nuke plants or just have a greedy government. You have to be a licensed or certified everything to do solar.

Most places you just have to hire an electrician to pull the permit and twist the wires. The home owner can do the install and save about 5 grand. Not much to it. Just buy a kit system and hang the inverter on the wall and put the modules on the roof. Hire the electrician to run the wires and make the connections and you are done.

You should also go to www.dsireusa.org and check out the solar installer requirements for your state.  Some states, like Michigan, require a two year apprenticeship and exam before you can become certified to install.  Without the certification, you cannot pull permits and get the utility inspection to commission your solar panels.

Additionally, without proper training, you may not be able to purchase systems.
