  1. you can get to melbourne in a car in 8hrs

  2. Victor Harbor and the Fleurieu Peninsula are a good day trip from Adelaide and have lots of nice places to stay overnight.

Plenty to see, the horse-drawn tram ride over to Granite Island, the penguin viewing at night, beautiful beaches, whales (if the season is right), steam train trips to Goolwa on Sundays. Next to Victor Harbor is Port Elliot which is rich in history and then Middleton which has great surf beaches, then Goolwa, rich in paddle-boat history and of course Hindmarsh Island where you will see the Murray Mouth as it exits to the ocean. There are wineries to visit and sample local wines and great restaurants all along the Fleurieu.

  3. Go to Kangaroo Island on the Sealink, great trip over to Penneshaw, lots to see, can go on a daytour across the Island and see everything from Kangaroos to rugged cliftops, beautiful beachs, national parks, penquins, seals, much more, also have a beer at the Penneshaw Hotel, very friendly people, very relaxing place.

  4. You could also just drive over to the Yorke Penisula, and stay at any of the coastal towns, go fishing etc., Maybe go over on the ferry that leaves Wallaroo and takes you over to the Eyre Penisula where you could travel down to Port Lincoln stay there overnight and drive back if you like and stop in to some of the other coastal towns on your way back.  If not just drive up to Whyalla and stay there for a few days, there are so many places you could go to it is endless......The Flinders Ranges is another place to visit, or just stay in Adelaide and take a tram down to Glenelg and see the shops and try out our wonderful restaurants. Wander around the city and visit our zoo and go on our "Popeye Boats" on the Torrens River there really is so much to do and see here in Adelaide. You seriously will want to stay longer than 2 weeks, believe me.....

  5. barossa!!

  6. Adelaide Hills - ie Stirling, Mclaren Vale or The Barossa.  Esp great if you like wine.  All are no more than 1 hour from the city.

  7. Riverland, its not busy you have over 5 great towns to choose from. Barmera has great lake views, however Loxton and Berri have nice views of the Murray river. Renmark has great places aswell..

  8. I agree with Mundoo, Victor Harbour is a nice place for a weekend getaway and you should enjoy. You can also go to stay in the Barossa valley.  Hahndorf is nice also.

You could also go to kangaroo island.

Decide if you would like to visit wineries, coast or whatever, there are very many nice places to visit and also you can take day and half day trips. I you get a car rental it is very easy to tour around and enjoy your visit.

You can get ideas for more places -

I think when you decide you can take a car rental yourself and drive around different places.
