  1. The cheapest you can get euros is with an Nationwide Bank account, use their debit card abroad to withdraw from ATM

Apart from Nationwide, everyone else offers onlt the AMEX exchange rate, Nationwide use midrate (no fees).

In practice - if you but euros at say £1 = €1.20, with Nationwide you would get £1 = €1.26! That is a big saving!

  2. Over the counter at any Post Office or, if you do not like to queue then M&S offer a free service too. Have a great holiday!

  3. You may have to shop around for the best rate, as one week one shop may be cheaper, the next week a different shop may be cheaper.

However the rate is fairly well fixed by the international exchange rate mechanism so you won't find a lot of difference really, just a few pence/cents.

  4. the post office will probably give you the best rate
