Question:

Where can I go to check why working papers were denied?

My mother has been here since 2003 and has been aproved for working papers ever since.

Now all of a sudden they are not being renewed. I am a US citizen and have filled for residency for here. But because she didn't come legally it is taking longer.

Our lawyer got a letter with the reason but she is giving us the run around. I asked her numerous times to fax it or mail it to us but she has done niether.

I really want to know what the reason was or read the letter myself.

Is there any website I can go to, to check the status or reason for them not renewing it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

  1. I know where you can go.... to your lawyer.  If your lawyer refuses to communicate with you about this matter then you should tell the lawyer this...."You have abandoned us as clients.  If you continue to refuse to communicate with us about this matter I'm going to file an abandonment complaint against you with the State Bar Association."

Abandonment is one of the most serious charges that can be made against an attorney.  I'm sure you'll have your lawyer's total attention after telling her this.  If not, contact your State Bar Association and file the charge against the lawyer.

  2. If she is illegally here, how in the world did she get working papers to begin with.  "They" probably just now realized she was illegal and have denied her for that reason.

  3. I am a little confused but let me understand and try to help you. Your lawyer has to give you the papers on why your mother was denied its the law if your his client. I Have heard of cases where lawyers missed important dates to file documentation. So all you need to do is find another lawyer and pay him to look into the case and for that matter have your process transferred to this new lawyer. Immigration law is so complicated that its hard to find real good lawyers out there, they usually charge more them regular lawyers. As I am trying to understand if she has a social security then she received a working permit am I right. So if the work permit is still valid she shouldnt have been denied unless like i said the lawyer has done something wrong. Once you get your work permit your about 70% done. I hoped I helped. Send email if there is any more questions.
