  1. It is best to get a DEXA of your hips and spine.  You can look in the yellow pages under "x-ray" or "physician - radiologist" and call those facilities.  They can tell you if they have a DEXA machine. I work in a free-standing imaging center in Northern California, and we do DEXA scans.  The hospital in town does not.  The only other DEXA machine in town is located in an OB/GYN office.  You will need a doctor's order to have a DEXA scan.

    There are portable bone density machines, which scan your wrist, and they are generally not as accurate.  Our local, nationwide drug store offers these scans about once a month.

    A DEXA is used to check your bone density, not anything else.  It is used to determine your risk of bone fractures.
