Where can I go to get event insurance as a vendor for county fairs, etc?

I have become a distributor recently and am trying to market a new patented fuel saver at county and state fairs. It has come to my attention that I am required to carry liability insurance as a vendor naming the county or state fair association as a co-insured. Where can I go to find this type of insurance?

  2. You need to  name them as ADDITIONAL insured, which is different.

You cannot buy this insurance directly, you HAVE to go through an agent.  If you go to State Farm, Nationwide, etc, they are going to turn you down.  You need a local, INDEPENDENT agent, who can put this out to market for you.

A one-shot policy - to cover one weekend, is probably going to cost $500 plus tax and fees (total, close to $750).   An annual policy is probably going to cost $1,000 plus tax and fees.  It usually costs $100 for EACH additional insured you need to add to the policy.  If you are going to be doing a bunch of these, see if you can get "blanket additional insured as required by written contract", for $250, as it will save you a lot of money over the course of the whole year.

  3. It's not a co-insured that they want, it's an additional insured endorsement.  There is a big difference.  Your best bet is to find a local insurance broker or agent who specializes in commercial lines.  Depending on the size of your company, you can probably get an annual policy for as little as $500.  Don't mess with anyone who wants to charge you a broker fee.  A policy for your type of busienss takes about 20-30 minutes the broker's time, so if he/she does charge a fee, make sure it's not more than $100.  There are policies out there that you can get for just one event at a time, but that is a much more expensive way of doing it.  I recommend getting a Business Owners Policy.  This policy includes general liability insurance and covers your property as well.  Some companies charge extra for additional insured endorsements, but many of them include it for free.  Try to find a broker that works with the following companies: Safeco, Hartford, AIG, and CNA and always work with someone local.
