  1. There are three whitewater runs in that area on the South Fork of the American River.  There is the "Chile Bar Run", the "Coloma to Lotus run", and "The Gorge" run.

The South Fork of the American River is the most run section of whitewater on the West Coast, and there are scores of rafting companies that would love to take you for a ride.

The two main sections are the "Chile Bar" (my personal favorite) and "The Gorge" (A good run, but a bit too much flat water at the end for my taste).  The Coloma to Lotus run is a bit to tame for rafting, and is considered a beginner kayaking run.

The South Fork may be a little too big right now for beginners, so be sure to ask the rafting companies if the flow is safe this time of year.

You can do single day, or multi-day runs. Here are a few raft companies that offer guided rafting river trips:

Give them a call or shoot them an email to get some more info.

    Have fun, and good luck!
