I make jewelry and have several loose stone sets (ruby, topaz, aquamarine etc) that I either don't like or don't need. I would like to find somewhere reputable to assess and hopefully purchase them. Downtown Vancouver preferred.

  1. Since I am not firmiliar with your area, I would try to stick with an AGS (American Gem Society) store.  AGS members, in general, follow a high code of ethics and try to keep up with the ever changing industry.  Below are some AGS members in your area.  Not all jewelers are out to take your stones, but it is good to find a jeweler you can trust.  AGS members are a good place to start.

  2. I usually use www.e-gemstone.com for all of my appraisels and lab reports. I have problably sent over 500 gemstones to them and never had any problems. I know the person who writes the appraisels is a G.G. (G.I.A.), and they send their stones directly to GIA if a lab report is needed with the appraisel. An appraisel costs $35, and a lab report is around $100.

  3. Just a warning, do not leave your stones with anyone. Many so called reputable jewelers have been known to switch valuable stones for fakes or at least less valuable.
