Hello!  Great question!  There are 2 women's teams in Chicago.  What part do you live in?  Out of the two, I would suggest the Chicago women's team over North Shore.  They are a great bunch of gals and are really open to new teammates.  Both teams make it to the Division I playoffs every year, however if you are looking for a fun social atmosphere, I'd stick with the Chicago Women RFC (rugby football club).  Check out their website at www.cwrfc.org

I played for Detroit for 6 years and always looked forward to the games against them.  They are very competitive, yet friendly.
