Where can I learn Japanese in Japan?

I want to to take a gap year to learn Japanese and travel in Japan. Does anyone know where I can learn or any companies that can help?

  1. It would probably be better to take that year during a study abroad through a college. To go to a foreign country you'll need a visa and I don't think you'll get a visa for more than three months if you don't have a school or a company supporting you. Japan can be pretty strict when it comes to visitations.


  2. Intrax Study Abroad has a summer program that teaches you Japanese and shows you popular sites around Tokyo and you spend a week in Osaka. The other two programs, month or semester immersion, requires that you take 6 months/1 year of Japanese, respectively.

  3. You could probably learn just from BEING there,...

    You would eventually start understanding what people are saying when they do certain things, that isn't exactly being TAUGHT how to speak Japanese, I'm just telling you that you would eventually catch on just from being there.

    Good luck trying to find an actual place to learn though, I'm not sure.
