The "sun dagger" is an archaeological site somewhere where the rocks are arranged so that a sliver of light (between the rocks' shadows) hit a carved target on the day of the solstices or equinoxes. Where can I find more sites like this?

  3. This is the type of thing that was rampant in Aztec temple building.  A few years ago i read a book by Wade Davis about his Amazonian experiences that you might like.  He described a temple like the rocks you're talking about, only this one had a few different special events and various kinds of symbolism like the sun being spread across the temple to gradually create a tapestry that the worshipers considered a metaphor for their existence.  Title of the book escapes me, but I'm sure it's not hard to find as Wade doesn't write that many actual books.

  4. Actually, besides the famous midwinter and midsummer solstice alignments at Stonehenge, there is also some evidence that at certain times of the year, the dying daylight will strike the ancient carved dagger on one of the huge trilithons which stood facing the altar stone. I was actually in the circle with a gentleman who  was testing this out with measuring poles.
