  1. U-Haul will probably be the cheapest for you. They'll install a hitch for you if you need it, and then they will attach one of their enclosed trailers for you. Then you just drive to Texas and when your done with it, you drop it off at the closest U-Haul down in Texas, no need to drive with it all the way back to Chicago.

If you don't wanna go about installing a hitch on your Explorer, what you could do is rent a U-Haul with a car tow trailer attached to it. In that case, you drive the U-Haul and basically tow your Explorer all the way down to Texas. Then you drop off the U-Haul and drive your Explorer back. 2. No need to lease. Uhaul, ryder, budget mainly. All you do is pick it up at a site near you and then drop it off in Texas near that site when done. Drive home with no trailer.

  3. Yeah, go U-Haul.  That way you can get the trailer from wherever you are living now and drop it off wherever you are moving to since they are a nationwide chain.

  4. Uhall...

  5. U-haul

  6. I've provided you with a list of uhal locations in chicago.  You can drop it off in Texas.

Also there is Ryder which is also national.
