Almost anywhere, avoid the real big cities or the tourism one.  Try a small city in central Mexico, u will experience all its culture and be a bus ride to alot of attrations.

In many places, but not "wherever you want", that is fool, who says that obviusly doesn't know México. There are many "gringo" ghettos too expensive (like in touristic cities: Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, San Miguel de Allende, Cancún) but those are very expensive.

pesos or dollars, if u mean pesos u would almost  2 b a homeless, if u mean dollars then everywhere.

You can do it, you meed to stay away from  Baja, Lake Chapala, and San Miguel de Allende...as well as other "gringo' areas.  Any touristy city or area with a lot of gringos will be expensive.  there are tons of good  places with maybe a few grings and tourists, but only a few.  A small town is best...can be within 30 minutes of a big city for conveniences.  You can rent a small apt for as low as $200 USD a month in some places...a med. range 2 bedroom house for about $350. phone $30, fast internet $35, cable tv $60, gas for house $10, elec $15, water $2.00.  Groceries about same as in U.S...except fruits and veggies which are cheaper.   Then there is gasoline if you bring a car, or buses and taxis, medicines, doctor visits ( cheap), and entertainment.  You can get national health ins for $300 a year if you like.  You CAN do it....I do.  If you have specific questions, you may email me.

Lots of US retirees live in Baja California on 1,200US a month, but they just squeak by with rent, food, and utilities. Electric is the killer right now. Lots of things you love you have to give up, necessary to divide needs from wants.
