Where can I open water swim within a few hours of the NYC area?

I know about Lake Minnewaska. I am looking for more options like that, maybe something even closer.

Are you opposed to swimming within NYC?  I used to swim at Riis park...it's the only beach I'd go to anymore.  If you look like you know how to swim, the lifeguards will let you get beyond reach and you can swim past the jettys.  Outside of NYC would be the Jersey shore.
