I am 23 and just started ballet classes. I started just to get into shape and be graceful. But now that I have started I am really enjoying it, and want to know what I can use it for. I understand that I am too old to consider becoming a professional, and honestly, I don't think that I could devote that much of my life to it. However, I do like to perform. I am curious if there are any companies or programs for adults who like to perform but aren't professionals.

  1. Does your studio have recitals? All of our adult classes perform at our recitals. We also do parades and local performances-. Some studios participate in dance competitions.

Any company is going to require a lot of time.

Some towns around me have auditions for The Nutcracker Ballet. The one my daughter auditions for takes age 9  and up. They start rehearsing in September for 14 performances in the first two weeks of December.  From Thanksgiving on we live at the theater.

Your studio may know of any local dance info.

  2. find out if ur studio has a seasonal performance (eg, a spring show, a winter show, a fall show) cuz most do. if that's the case, then go for it! also, look around your area for any local teams. also, u might want to look into other forms of dance, like jazz or a turns and progressions class (which will cover most forms of dance) also, tap is very popular and lyrical. any of these will have teams, or performances for you to join in your area.

  3. Maybe in ur ballet program they have performances like every spring or winter. If ur ballet program is made up of mostly kids and very few adults (like the ballet program i am in) then u could possibly b in some shows. It really depends though...
