Hey. Maybe somebody can help me. I am German and I just got my second H1b visa here in America. Before I travel now I have to go back to Germany to the American Embassy and pick up my new visa. Is there any way to go to a different country and pick it up. I know yo can pick it up in Canada but how about Australia. Could I go to the American Embassy in Australia and pick up my passport?

Help needed here.

  1. You just can't go and pick up. You need to make an appointment for the visa stamping at Embassy of any country. Most of attorneys advise you to go your own country just in case you get denied the visa. Then you must leave the country at once. Good luck.

  2. Ordinarily, the State Dept. is not anxious to issue a visa to a person who does not live under the jurisdiction of the visa office where the application is being made. If you do not have status in Australia, the consulate or embassy in Australia will more than likely not accept your application. You can try, but they may tell you to apply in Germany. You'd have to communicate with the visa office in question to know for sure.

You cannot have your visa stamped inside the U.S. with the new visa. If you are only going to be in Australia for a short trip, they are unlikely to be receptive to an application at a location in that country. Try the consulate's website to see if they accept applications from non-residents.

  3. Friend,

    - You can do it by living in USA [If you do not want to go to Germany]

    - In the other case, if you want to go to Canada for stamping, you need to change the "Conuslate" in your form I-797. In form I-797[approved petition] USCIS mention the embassy where you need to get the visa. If you want to change the embassy, you need to inform USCIS and then they will issue you new I-797 form and inform the respective consulate in candana. It is possible but it can take time.

    All the best
