Question:

Where can I purchase a brass wedge?

An artist looking to use a brass wedge for a project. Is it possible to find one without having it custom made? The size doesn't have to be that specific. Approximately the size of a shim (maybe a little thicker), or a doorstop would be perfect. If I had to specify, 2 inches wide, 5 inches long, 1/2 inch at top and tapers to a point at the bottom. Thanks!

  1. Find a local machine shop in your area.  Give them your dimensions and they should be able to make one for you with no trouble.  All it takes is a flat piece of brass and a milling machine, along with some time.

  2. I agree, I have a funky little old blacksmiths type shop in my town that makes me all sorts of odd metal things. Usually charges me 20 bucks for small jobs. Old men in overalls work there. There is usually a dog asleep in the shade.

Lookin the yellow pages for 'Machine shop" or "Welding", same shops often do welding.

But you might ck the sources from some of the old fashioned hardware suppliers and restoration hardware people, see link below:

  3. try this site mscdirect.com just type in "wedges" in their search box

  4. A good machinist can make anything out of anything. So just look in the phone book, and pick some one close. Tell them what you want, or draw them a picture. They will be able to make it.
