Where can I read the online books for free?

If an author puts his book on his website for free, then it is legal. Otherwise you are a book pirate supporting other book pirates.

these are the old classic books. i think i read somewhere that the author has to be dead for about a century and then the book can be public domain. also see,

Project Gutenberg has lots of free books, in a variety of formats, including free audiobooks in mp3 format. Great stuff.
