Car seats should not be used after 6 years. Is there anywhere they can be recycled? Hate to see them end up in a landfill!

  1. Depending on where you live, some car insurance companies take them. I know the company I use gives them to people who are in a desperate need for a car seat (like battered women and children.)

I would also call your local department of motor vehicles to see if they have any suggestions.

If neither of those work for you, contact your recycling company.

  2. At this time there are very few places that recycle them - the previous poster MUST be mistaken - it would be completely unethical to give expired car seats to families in need when they can often get free ones elsewhere.

There's a place in Portland, Oregon called Legacy Emanuel's recycling center where they recycle them.  And another in Colorado: Colorado Children's Automobile Safety Associates

Unfortunately, that's about it for now. I hate the idea of them in the landfill, too, but hate the idea of them endangering a child even more so it may just be one of those things...
