Where can I rent a small airplane (Cessna, similar) in Italy?

  1. There are many places you can rent a plane, but you didn't specify where you will be.  If you are in Rome, look for the 'Urbe' airport.  Most cities have one private airport that you can rent from.

    That said, it is not as common in Italy as it is in the states, so you won't have the choice of FBOs that you may be used to.  For example, in a huge city like Rome, there are very few airplanes for rent, and it is EXTREMELY expensive because fuel is very costly, and they have many fees that we are not accustomed to.

    Additionally, for all airplanes that take off in Italy, and are not classified as an Ultralight, you must file a flight plan.

    Finally to the requirements:  If you are flying a European registered aircraft, you will need to get a special waiver in order to fly the airplane without an instructor on board.  Trust me when I tell you it is not worth it.  Oddly enough, if you had a US Registered aircraft in Italy, you would be fully legal without the waiver.
