Question:

Where can I report suspected tele-marketing scams?

I have received several calls recently from an automated recording telling me it is my final notice regarding some payment on my vehicle. I did a search on the phone number and found a couple of sites where people have logged complaints on the number, receiving the same or similar calls. Some have gone as far to speak to actual people from this number, and found them asking for personal information about vehicle identification numbers and credit card information. When the would-be victims try to ask more about the person or company, and have been greeted with either obscenities or hangups.

I know that general telemarketers can be reported to the national do-not-call registry, but is there somewhere else where I can report suspected scams? The call have been coming from a non-local number.

I know I'm tempted to mess around with these scammers the next time they call, I just haven't figured out what I can do.

  1. You can report a scam, here:

Also, I would notify the local police department. If this is happening a lot in your area (the faux company has targeted your town, etc) then the police can and will make it public so others won't fall for it. I've seen several notices in our local paper about scam operations happening in our county.

  2. I often wonder if the FBI gets involved in this.

  3. Call either the police or Ofcom which is the regulatory body for all comms companies.
