I know that Mississippi Museum of Natural Science has some dinosaur fossils, but only fragments. I want to know where in Mississippi a person can see dinosaur skeletons/fossils in the state.

  1. There may few places to see dinosaurs insitu in Mississippi. Much of NA was under water for millions of years. Mississippi also does not have erosion that the west US has to expose the bones. If you want to see skeletal remains, check out other museums in the state.

  2. I don't know if there are any complete dinosaur skeletons on permanent display in the state of Mississippi, but there may be traveling exhibits within the state. I would suggest that you call the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science at (601) 354-7303 and ask if the people working there know of any permanent displays within the state, or if they know of any traveling exhibits passing through. I believe that one such traveling exhibit did pass through a few years ago. The closest you might get is the Pink Palace Museum in Memphis, TN which has a permanent dinosaur exhibit, and is just north of Mississippi.

  3. Mississippi is primarily a very large river delta.  Sediments are being piled up and it is subsiding.  For dinosaur fossils to be exposed, you must have some uplift and then erosion.  You are generally in an area of deposition, you need to find an area of erosion with soil of the right age (and terrestrial) exposed.  Fossils of land animals are relatively rare.
