I have an Antigua Winds alto sax that's been gently used. I'd like to sell it in Seattle. Where can I? I'm looking for a store to sell it too--I'm less interested in using classified ads.

  1. If it was me, I would go to the schools and ask (or call) and see if they have a music section. There are always new students looking to save a little money on starting with an instrument.

  2. Craigslist or you can even take it to your local high school and donate it and then write it off on your tax's

  3. Your local music store!  They buy gently used instruments, clean and refurnish them for rentals to school bands.

  4. If you wanting to get the most out of it you best best is going to be ebay.  Prices for used instruments on ebay are really high right now since the kids are going back to school.

  5. You could try the Trading Musician off Roosevelt and Ravenna.

  6. Hello there,

Though you are not too interested in selling your sax through classified ads,  you are going to get a lot less money by selling to a music store because remember,  they will pay the least they can to make their profit (to the public consumer - who might be looking in the classifieds to get a better deal than what they will have to pay at the music store).  This is the business end of doing it.

I would not completely decide against selling by a classified ad... but there are other ways as well.

    1. eBay, with only pick-up option - so you are selling in your locale which avoids shipping.

    2. Craigslist.org in Seattle

    3.  Grocery store / Church Bullitin Boards

    4.  Getting in touch with local school band directors to let them know there is a saxophone for sale.

    5.  Word of mouth.... tell people you know you have a saxophone for sale.  You would be surprised at how word travels and there are many parents who are looking for used instruments here at the beginning of school.

So that is my advice for selling AND getting the most money for your instrument.   I don't know what you are hoping to get for your instrument but selling to a music store...  they may offer you $200.00 + or - depending on what they see profitable... they would probably re-sell it used for $650.00.  Selling outright to the public.... I see you could sell for twice to three X that much.   It may take a little more work and a bit more time...  but it depends on what it is worth to you.

    Thanks for reading.

Just hoping to be helpful.  :))
