I live in houston texas. I have a few gold items that I don't wear or use anymore and I wouldn't mind getting rid of. I was told gold was selling high at the moment and I could use the money. Is there a place that can be trusted?

  1. go to goldkit.com i sold my old scrap gold there and got $7000

  2. My friend wanted to do the same thing.

She did a lot of research, and she found a great place online. I will provide the link for you below if you are interested.

She compared a lot of places. She felt good about this one because it was featured in USA Today, and she liked the fact that they are members of the BBB.

They were willing to give her the best price for her gold, and they were willing to pay her fast.

There is a ton of information on that site if you would like to check it out. You can put in your information if you would like to find out what you can get for your gold.

Good luck, I hope you get they money you want for it!

  3. 1) Sort the jewelry you wish to sell into piles by K: 24K, 20K, 18K and so on. If you don't know, it may only be gold-plated which is very low in gold content. Leave the gold-plated things separate.

    2) Weigh the pile in grams* and multiply the weight by the K number, then divide that number by 24.  For example, if the 20K pile weighs 12 grams*, 12 x 20 / 24 = 10

    3) Add up the numbers you get for each pile.  This is the total gold content, in grams*

    *  Any unit of weight will do, but the price of gold is quoted in US dollars / Troy ounce, 31.1 grams each.  Any scale you might have is probably not calibrated in Troy ounces.

    4) Look up the price of gold online:

    http://www.kitco.com

At the time of this writing, the bid price of gold is $909.80US  / troy ounce.  Gold prices fluctuate constantly.  By the time you read this, the price may be lower or higher.

    5) Divide the gold price by 31.1 to get the price in grams*.  If you measured the weight in pounds, there are 12 Troy ounces in a pound.  In this example, $909.80 / 31.1 = $29.25 per gram*.    Multiply the total number you got in step 3 by the price per gram*.  This represents the approximate worth of the gold content in your jewelry.

Note that the value of the gold in the jewelry may be substantially less that the amount you originally paid for the jewelry.  Jewelry is not just a lump of gold; it represents art and craftmanship. Stores that sell jewelry often have substantial markups.  However, no piece of jewelry will ever be worth less than the value of the precious metals in it.  This is part of the appeal of gold and silver jewelry.  Unlike our currency, they will never be worthless.
