I have clothing that is not in good condition to donate but don't want to send to landfill. Does anyone know if these items can be sent for recycling and where?

  1. hI, i worked at goodwill for 4 yrs till about 4 yrs ago, and when we got clothes in non sellable shape, they got 'baled' and then went to either a third world country to clothe people there, or be used otherwise, or went to a factory that shredded them, and wove it into rags.  You may like to confirm with a donation center attendant that this is still how it goes.  They will likely just throw things you say are in bad shape right into the bin for baling.  Of course even when donating rags, it would be appreciated that they are clean.  good luck.

  2. If you know of any craft groups in your area, some cut old clothes into strips to make braided and crochet rugs.

  3. Our church works closely with the People's City Mission and when they were collecting clothing this Fall, we could also bring "unusable" clothing and they would also recycle them somewhere into the "bales" and would receive the money to help their programs at the Mission so it was a win-win situation for everyone.

  4. Walmart parking lots now have clothing and shoe recycle bins in them, check out your local Walmart and see if there is a large red or yellow bin in the back of the lot. The clothing and shoes need to be clean and dry.

  5. Hi The local DAC Store takes items They use them for rags for different companys We have one here in Lakefield.I am not sure if there is one in Worthington

  6. If you know anyone who sews old clothing may be use to make quilts.
