Where can I stay in Portland,Oregon that doesn't require a credit card at check in?

Year ago I had 3 credit cards. I'm only down to one which is a Discover Card. I wanted to stay in a Youth Hostel in Portland but they don't take Discover Card and will not allow me to rent a bed without a Visa or Mastercard at check in. This hostel will not take a cash deposit. My Visa Debit Card linked to my checking account doesn't have enough to check into this Youth Hostel? The Youth Hostel requires at least $700 to be on the debit card that they can freeze for two weeks meaning that I wouldn't be able to take any money out of my schecking account for two weeks?

I'm arriving in Portland by Greyhound Bus to look at some apartments to rent. I hope I don't have to stay out in the street becasue I have poor credit. I would be willing to give a hostel or motel a $500 cash deposit that I can get back. Many Hostels and hotels are stubborn and if you can't provide them with a credit card they will not rent you the room.

You might have to stay in a sleazy hotel that will accept a cash deposit. Other than that you may need to quickly get a secured credit card just so you have something to use to book a reservation. You can get one from Capital One or Orchard Bank....I don't how soon you're leaving but give it a whirl.

How long are you planning on being in Portland?  Why don't you just book your reservation online with Hotels.com or Expedia or Travelocity?  You can pay for it up front with your debit card.  If the hotel requires a credit card at check-in ensure against damage, etc. either use your debit card (which they shouldn't charge since you've already paid your hotel fee) or use your Discover card.

I just checked hotels.com for rooms in Portland, OR.  The "Inn at the Convention Center" has rates as low as $70 per night.
