I'm celebrating a special birthday in March and was wondering if anyone had any great hotels to recommend? It would be nice to be pretty central to everything but as I've never been before I was hoping that someone could recommend somewhere pretty special but not too expensive!

Have a look at this hotel.  It is about 50 metres from the St Peters.  The staff are great & I found a great deal through Expedia.

Rome is a fabulous city and and no matter where you stay, I am sure you will have a great birthday when you go.

  2. I echo what everyone else says, you get what you pay for in Rome, you want to stay close to the centre, not out in Travestere (although it is dead pretty and worth a visit) we loved Piazza Navona am I am going to do some research on the hotel suggested here!!! You will have the most wonderful time!

  3. Per Trip Advisor (http://rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com/HACSe... the best hotels under $200 per night are the Villa San Pio, Domus Praetoria. Raffaello, BW Hotel Canada, Hotel Golden, Hotel Cortina, Hotel Columbia, Bailey's Hotel, Diocleziano. and others.  You can use this site as a search engine & also find reviews from travelers who've actually stayed in the properties.

  4. Hotel Navona near Piazza Navona.  Clean, great location. It's been quite awhile since I've stayed there though, so it could be different now.

  5. Hotel Trastevere

    SINGLE ROOM: 80 euro

    A list of B&B from 25 to 50 euro

  6. hi just back from Rome. One Hotel that gets good reviews everywhere is "Hotel Eden". It is slightly expensive but I found in Rome that you get what you pay for.

  7. If you want somewhere incredibly romantic though not a hotel, I can recommend the tiny little house at the link below...

It really is tiny, just for 2 people, but it's a cute little terracotta house behind a monastery, 5 minutes from the walls of the Vatican with great bus connections into the centre.
