Where can I stay in sydney that won't cost a fortune?

I want to take my husband and I on a weekend away from the kids and the housework. I want to go into town, go to dinner, walk around darling harbour etc and do it on a budget do you have any ideas? I have babysitters from friday til sunday (for the first time in a lot of years!!!)

try the motels some start at $50 a night. and you don't need to stay in the CBD, if you go out of the city itself it's much cheaper and there is a variety of public transport to get you to darling Harbor.

To stay? I'd suggest you to stay probably in Vibe Hotel or Capitol Square Hotel (managed by the Rydges). budget but decent. and its in the city, very close to the darlin harbour.  If you are thinking bout stayin in darlin Harbout, probably Ibis Hotel would be a good idea (you are looking for about $110 - $180 / nite).
