Question:

Where can I stop and help with sandbagging on my way out of Illnois?

I will be leaving the middle of Illinois on Saturday morning. I will be traveling in a southwesterly direction, but I can be flexible about where I cross. Water, of course, may inhibit that; some of the Interstates near the Mississippi are about level with the fields.

I would like to know if there is a specific place to go to volunteer and help with the efforts.

Any other travel advice from people in the area would be appreciated.

  1. Call local radio and TV stations.

  2. There is sandbagging going on right now in Quincy.  I'm sure down around St. Louis will also need help.  Check with the local papers in the area where you will be and the will be a listing of sandbagging stations. Be prepared to get dirty and work hard. Nice thing you are doing to help out.

  3. Go to Peoria or Bloomington, Peoria has a beutiful riverfront, the new Medical district, good people.
