I earned my degree in Mexico City but I am a US citizen now. Because I am a native speaker, do I really have to study four years? I tried to contact the board of education in Illinois with out any success.....

  1. What you first want to do is find out how much of your degree from Mexico will transfer to a US university.  Chances are, you will have to do some course work with a college in Chicago, however, likely not a full four years.  Teaching in the USA requires the instructor to be certified, and the licensure differs from state to state.  Check with the Board of Education on specific requirements for Illinois and have your transcripts evaluated.  Once that is done, you will have a better understanding of how much you need to do to teach in the USA.  Good luck.
