I thought I was buying a female from a pet shop but it turned out to be a male and i really want a female. My dad won't let me have anymore hamsters so i was wondering if there is anyone or anywhere i can swap my hamster for a female dwarf hamster. The male is 5 months, grey dwarf russian, healthy, cuddly, loves to be handled and very lovable (he licks your fingers!) He looks something like this:

  1. dwarf hamsters while cute are not smart enough to be trained

they will bit you every time

    better the hamster you have

  2. that is so cute i would have it but i ant i have enough y dont u sell it and get a new 1 with the money hes not to old and y does every girl want a female hamster its so scary

  3. I don't think you should get another pet as you see them as property you can swap when you wish rather than a living creature who is entirely reliant on you and is your responsibility.  You should be responsible and let him live out his life with you and be cared for and loved properly.

In hamsters gender makes almost no difference to temprement (if anything males can be a little friendlier).

Russian dwarf hamsters should be kept in same s*x pairs or groups as they are sociable (not like syrians who will fight to the death).  It is too late now though as they must live together since being pups or they will fight.

  4. I'm sorry, but I don't understand the problem with a male. It sounds like you have a great hamster right now. Why would you want to change that? There is nothing wrong with having a female rather than a male. There really isn't much difference between the genders.

What will you do if you do swap your male in for a female and the female is aggressive and bites you? You would have missed out on a great hamster all because you wanted that female.

In my opinion, you should keep your male. There's no problem with him. He sounds like a wonderful hamster. When you get a pet, it's your responsibility. They depend on you for their entire life. You made a commitment when you got it. You made a commitment when you bought that hamster, whether it's a male or female. Gender doesn't matter in this case.
