Where can I take a boy who is mad on trains in Bedfordshire (or surrounding area)?

I know a boy who is mad on trains and would love to do something for his birthday today. We live in Bedfordshire. Does anyone know the best place to spot trains? or anywhere I can take him? thanks

    To spot trains - Bedford itself, which has mainline services with HSTs and Meridians, electric services provided by First Capital connect and DMU services on the Bletchley line. Rugby might not be to far with Pendolinos, goods services and locals on LMR.
