  1. Ask campus security, a lot of campuses will allow you to have them on campus as long as they are checked in with security and stored in their safes. You then have to check them out to use them.

At least it was that way when I went to school 20 years ago.

But then a lot has changed since then.

If it is illegal to carry a gun into a bank where you are at, is it illegal to carry a shoe box full of gun parts into a bank?

Meaning, if you dissemble it and say keep the barrel is it a gun or just a box of parts?

    Food for thought...

There is a branch of my bank just down the road, they have a double entry system. Enter, door closes and locks you walk through metal detector, no metal door on inside unlocks.

First time I went in I got locked in with the red lights flashing. Manager walked up I showed my CHL and he opened the door with a smile and a handshake.

It may be illegal where you live but not in the State of Texas.

  2. How about in a Bank Lockbox???

  3. The safe deposit box at the bank is the best idea. Nobody else has access so you don't have to worry about it being misused and you getting blamed for it.

As another answer mentioned, make sure its legal for you to transport it to the bank. Its not legal in my state without a carry permit but, fortunately, most states are not as oppressive as mine is.

  4. Your parents house.

  5. safe deposit box near school or parents house is the best option

The home of a good friend comes in a distant third, but still a viable option depending on your friends

Can you provide a link to the federal law making it a crime to carry a gun into a bank?

Betcha can't, and the asker has not provided his state of residence or where he is going to school

There is no law making it illegal in Florida and I have stored particularly valuable gun in a safety deposit box with the bank managers knowledge

  6. If you put it in yer pants and cover it with your shirt, thats pretty legal.

  7. I would call your local police department and ask them.

  8. Several things spring to mind.

First, why not ask the Campus Police if you can store it with them?  Worst they can do is say no you can't.

The next thing really depends on the state where you liver or attend college.  If the state doesn't require registration of firearms owners, such as possession of a  FOID for firearms possession, you might leave the gun, in a locked box, with a friend off campus, or with the parents of friends.  The FOID requirements could be a problem if the friends are non-gun owners.

If there is a shooting club near your college, espcially if this is where you'd do most of your shooting, inquire there about lockers or firearms storage.

Good Luck, back when I was a young college freshman, a couple of hundred years ago, the college didn't mind if students had guns in their cars, or even in dorm rooms.  My how times have changed!!!

  9. I work for a bank.

First of all, it is against the law to bring a firearm in a bank (at least in this state and probably most). Furthermore, you can't have one in a safe box --- that's against every bank's policy that I ever heard of. It's hard to get caught as bank employees aren't suppost to know what's in the box. Then you have the problem of walking out of a bank with a pistol in a backpack --- which is also against the concealed carry law...

Everyone can give me thumbs down. That's a mess waiting to happen and you don't want to F up your life over it.

In college I used to have a 22lr rifle in the back of my truck for squirrel hunting. It's pretty much - keep your mouth shut and don't even tell your roommate.

You can check with the campus police. Even a couple years ago I heard stories about leaving the gun at the police station and checking it in again. I don't know if that can be done.

There's really no reason to have a handgun at school anyways besides going to the range. I think the best thing to do is wait till at least the end of the first semester or first year and see if you get to know someone off campus. Then next year buy a little lockbox and keep it at your friend's house. Or wait until you move off campus --- I wouldn't want to live on campus for 4 or 5 years as the 2 years I did it drove me nuts.

That's your best bet - other than to keep the gun at your parent's house.

  10. If the campus prohibits firearms, as most do these days. You can't take it with you anywhere on campus.

You'll have to leave it home, or at a friend's house "off campus", and make sure they are responsible with it in their house.

  11. Give it to me i will hold it for a while

  12. This is a good question to ask your campus police.  And a great idea to touch base with them anyway - because they will also be able to shine you on to any local clubs where you can use it.

I would be surprised if the campus police did not have a locker for student firearms.  Because providing this service goes a long way to keeping them from being stored in the Droms.

If this does not work - ask the campus police for a point of contact at the local police where the college is - or state trooper office too.  You do not want to just walk into the police station cold and ask this question....... you want call sgt. ABC and begin by telling him you were refered to him by sgt XYZ of your college police as somone who might be able to arrainge storage of you private firearm while attending college.

I would be totally shocked if you could not find a solution between the campus and local police.  While traveling across the country to competitions I have never been refused storage at a local police station.  But - I always called in advance.   Every time I checked them in the cops would tell me they wished more people would do it - because they would rather see them safe at the cop shop then in a hotel room where they could easily become stolen and end up in the wrong hands.

One particular police station had a full pistol range downstairs.  They gave me unlimited access - 2am or 2pm I could shoot there.  This was great - I was able to get a little warm up practice in before a match!  I loved going there for the matches!

    Hope this helps.

  13. Last I knew you can't take firearms on campus.

  14. I am with vangion AGAIN on this one, it is not illegal in my state to carry in a bank unless they have the proper signs up saying people with CHL can't.

Example, where I bank has the sign...no carry gun

The bank where my wife works does not have sign, i     can carry

So the most important thing here is we can not answer the question until we know where the asker lives
