Is there a place that takes cats that will keep them or find them a home without being put to sleep? I have to get rid of my 10 month old cat because my 7 year old son is too rough with her and she is vicious to everyone I believe because of him. It is causing too much stress in the house

  1. Don't know, as if the cat is vicious, she may be put down anywhere you take her. Maybe it is a good opportunity to teach your son to be gentle with animals. Also what if you were to give the cat a safe haven, a place where no one messes with her like a cat tree, or post or maybe even a quite room until she earns your family’s trust back? Hope this helps.

  2. If you want to take your cat to a shelter but don't want them to put it down, make sure you take it to a shelter that is "no-kill".  If you take her to a regular shelter there is a very good chance she'll be put down.  Most shelters are over-populated with cats due to people giving them up and people letting them outside where they breed like crazy if not fixed.  Regular shelters can't afford to keep all those cats forever and kittens are usually adopted before adults, so a lot of cats end up being put down.  Her chances wouldn't be very good at a regular shelter especially since she has behavioral problems.  Good luck finding a good home for your kitty!

  3. Depends on where you live but most areas how a cat rescue centre that does not put healthy cats down, try cats protection league for advice

  4. There are Cat rescue centres about.. Ask your local vet for an address...

  5. Have you considered teaching the son not to pester the cat? I realize that you feel the cat has gotten to a certain place, but what caused it? Basically, if you are having this problem with your cat, any animal you bring in to the house will begin to behave the same way.

I would take another month or two of training the cat and see if it doesn't go back to being a sweet loving friend. Most animals change behavior that drastically because of abuse. Perhaps you need to spend more time looking at the cause of the problem, and not trying to do a quick fix. Its really not fair to the cat to be put out because of human behavior. Besides, if your son really is causing the problems with the cat, you will soon have bigger problems than an irritable cat in the house.

  6. Google around for No-Kill shelters.  Or try Craigslist or someplace where you can place her directly in a home.  Be sure that it is a good home, though, hot like a testing facility or something.

I'm sorry you had to do this and good luck!!!

  7. I would take her to the Humane Society.  They are a no kill cat shelter and they will take the cat for you.
