Where can I take my kayak in Atlanta, Ga.?

I am about to buy one and I would like to know where I can take it near Atlanta. I would like to go somewhere I can take it slow and learn the ropes before I get on rapids.

Obviously you are new at kayaking.  Find a club, take lessons, absolutely.  Don't go it alone.  Get some books from the library to start out. And again get some lessons dude!  The Chattahoochee is close.  There's not much water in the mountains above Helen right now so most are very shallow and safe..  Make sure you learn the rapids classification system.

There are plenty of lakes in the area where you can try it out  (ex. West Point, Burton, Lanier, etc.)

Definitely find a group to go with, such as an outdoors group. Really, if you only ever intend to do small class I and II rivers an flat water, you'll be OK without knowing how to roll, but it is a good skill to learn.
