Me and my mum are going to London in November for her 60th birthday. She derserves somewhere really special and I would like to take her out ofr a lovely meal on the saturday night.

Money not really an object but dont want to be ripped off either. Somewhere classy with decent food and nice atmos.

Any ideas guys??

We are staying close to Oxford street, so pretty central would be good.

  1. Rules in covent garden is said to be one of the oldest in London, this restaurant has been around since 1789, and it honors that history by maintaining a sense of tradition in food and spirits rather than changing with the times.

Comfort foods are the order of the day in the gorgeous, statue-lined dining room. Try scrambled eggs with salmon, Yorkshire pudding, succulent game dishes, or flavorful roasted leg of lamb with mustard mash.

  2. Theres a nice turkish restaurant near liverpool street called Haz.  Been there a couple of times. Food is superb!!

Or try having a look on  http://www.london-eating.co.uk/

  3. Rules on Maiden Lane in Covent Garden. Its the oldest restaurant in London and they specialise in traditional  English food.

Not too dear - quite a bit less than such as the Ivy and Gordon Ramsey's, etc, but excellent food and ambience in an old style. Its my favourite and  I make a point of going every time I am in London. Your mum would appreciate it. We are in the same age bracket. Royalty have eaten there for years, along with film stars etc, but don't worry they put them upstairs out of the way of normal people. You will need to book as soon as you decide if you are going to go.

  4. Hard to beat the Ivy for an occasion - not sure if you will be able to get a table for then, but worth trying. Good, reliable food, and a fantastic atmosphere, and a good chance of spotting a few celebs (if Dale Winton and Carol Verderman count!).

If your mum is a foodie, go to Locanda Locatelli, Giorgio Locatelli's place, just behind Marble Arch. The food is the best Italian I've ever had. Very expensive.

  5. Have you looked into Dinner Cruises on the Thames. I've never been on one but it does sound lovely. Some of them do a little disco after as well. 60 is not too old to party!

  6. TRY around Covent Garden

    you'll have fun there

Petrus in Knightsbridge is expensive but fabulous...may have trouble getting an evening dinner reservation...at such short notice, but shouldn't have a problem with Lunchtime....

or maybe Pied a Terre in Charlotte Street

another great restaurant.....enjoy. both ideal for that very special occasion.
