  1. ASPCA E.92ST,  Bide-A Wee,

    Google animal shelters-nyc

                  animal adoption-nyc; pet adoption-nyc

                   pet foster care-nyc

There are many private small shelters that would probably let you work in their places, but it might be things like cleaning out cages, filling feeding bowls etc.

Good luck to you, I hope you find something.

  2. Check your yellow pages and find your local animal shelters.  Call them and ask if they could use an extra pair of (free) hands.

  3. If, because of your age, the ASPCA, Humane Society, or whatever group runs your area's animal shelters, say no, there are STILL things you can do.

    You can:

-- make sure you use your MySpace, FaceBook, or other online profiles to link to the profiles of animal groups like the ASPCA, Humane Society, etc.

-- subscribe to the email newsletters of these groups, and take excerpts from these and post them to your own bulletin/blog, whatever, to raise awareness among others about their work

-- look online regularly for stories about pet welfare, and blog about these as well; for instance, today there was a story on the news wires about the huge increase of animals going into shelters because of the mortgage crisis; people are losing their homes and think they cannot find rentals that will allow pets. People need to be aware that organizations like the Humane Society can help them find pet friendly housing options

-- post information to your online profiles about where people can go to get help for pet behavior problems (one of the chief reasons people take their pets to shelters)

-- start a club at school that works to increase awareness among students about appropriate pet care (like the danger of not bringing in dogs when it's cold)

  4. Do you mean animal shelter, not adoption? Look up the SPCA for your town on google, or try putting the name of your town and then "animal shelter". Call around and ask if they take volunteers your age. Many places won't for insurance reasons, but you can always ask.
