I would like to volunteer with woman and children in the Latino community, preferably in the NW side of Chicago. Something along the lines of domestic violence counseling or education.

  1. VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations, including organizations focused on Latinos and organiyations in your geographic area. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site (http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/).

  2. Check with the local church... they usually have a handle on who needs help.

  3. Try contacting Mujeres Latinas En Acción. They have a domestic violence program.

According to their web site, they offer the following services: "Crisis assessment and intervention, education on the Illinois Domestic Violence Act (IDVA) and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), 24-hour hotline, individual and group counseling, community education, civil and criminal court advocacy, 40-hour domestic violence training and certification, volunteer opportunities and referrals."
