Question:

Where can I volunteer?

I want to volunteer because I want to help people (as cliche' as that sounds) but I'm stumped as to where I should start out? Can anyone suggest any "beginning" volunteer places/jobs? I'm in Sydney, btw and 21 years old. I'm more than willing to get my hands dirty :) thanks for any help.

  1. Local nursing home. Trust me, i have volunteered at mine for 6 years and im 20 right now. The elderly love company and love swapping stories with the younger generation. Especially those who never get company, they will put a smile on your face. But you must have a strong heart because you will soon realize you will look at them as your friends and when they pass away, you will be hurt and feel like you lost a great friend. They also, might just ask you to watch tv or play board games with them.

  2. I did some research on the the top volunteering websites in UK, US, Canada and Australia.

I think for Australia the main one is

If you think of something you would really like to do but don't see a request for such on any of these services, then contact an organization with your proposal.

  4. Look into your heart, you already know what you would love to do or are interested in doing.  Whether it is working with children, the elderly, the people after a disaster all can be found on http://www.volunteermatch.com.  You will love helping other people, pets or whatever you are interested in.

  6. at ur school. In Australia alot of places where you can volunteer.

  7. Start by helping box food for the needy at a church or local food bank. You can also volunteer at hospitals helping delivering cards, flowers, and provide conversation to patients to help cheer up their day. One really good way to help out is by delivering "meals on wheels" to shut-ins.

And by the way there is nothing "cliche'' about helping people. You are to be commended for wanting to help others!

    Bless you for your kindness!!
