Where can a 10 year old help.

Question

Where can a 10 year old help animals? A shelter in IL? A pet store? anywhere with animals? remember shes 10. Thanks A Ton!!!

Where I live there is a small nature zoo where wild animals are cared for and rehabilitated. If possible they are released back to the wild. They run a program for children to learn about the animals and to care for the animals. Sometimes they talk with people that come to visit. This is a very small county run center.

The problem you're going to run into is insurance. Most places that would love to have your child help can't because of their insurance regulations. There are also child labor laws that will make it difficult for her to help in stores.

Would she like to walk some of your neightbors' dogs, or pet sit for friends animals, when they go out of town? My children did a lot of pet sitting when they were young, and somehow now that they aren't doing that anymore we're doing it for our friends.

I would also suggest she find a program that is non-profit and set up some fund raising events for them. A lemonade stand for the cause, or make collection cans that can be put in businesses, collect the cans, and take the money to the organization. There are some restrictions on this too, so you would need to see if the organization can support the fund raising and what the laws within your city are.

I know the Humane Society in our area ask for food and blankets for the animals. She could collect these for her Humane Society if they need them. She might be able to run a collection at her school. She could set it up make the collections, and deliver them to the Humane Society.

Well, I'm 11 And Work at a Bakery. Does That Count? It is In fact illegeal

To Work At any Age Under 14, Unless Your Family owns The Business.

But My Family Does Not Own the Bakery, so I'm actually doing Illegal Stuff.

Your ten year old can volunteer to walk the dogs of elderly neighbors, she can also call the local animal shelters and ask if their is a program that lets kids come and help with the animals.

I'm pretty sure shelters and pet stores wouldn't let a ten year old around a lot of animals, becuase putting a child around animals is usually just asking for an injury and an angry parent. But if she really wants to be around animals, why doesn't she set up a pet sitting service? Good Luck!
