I have a 6 year old little girl and she saw a St. Judes commercial and began asking me questions about it. After explaining what the hospital does for children she expressed that she would really like to help kids at hospitals but everywhere I have looked it says they have to be at least 16 years old. She said she wants to buy them all teddy bears (she loves teddys) but I explained to her that her thought was really nice but that it cost money to buy teddys and we just could not afford it. I thought that maybe she can ask for donations but I want this to be her idea and not mine.

  1. You're not going to find anywhere...

Even for those who require age 16, there are often waiting lists (They get more than they know what to do with, from people who require it for their College or University applications, which it looks good on).

I would recommend her trying to gather donations on her own towards the purchase of Teddy bears for the children... (who can resist a 6 year old girl asking you to help out needy children?).

  2. She's too young to engage in volunteering without a parent or guardian present. She could join the brownies or girlscouts, as many troops engage in activities to benefit particular charities. She could join in an activity at a community of faith along with you (mosque, church or temple) that benefits a nonprofit or a particular demographic. The two of you could, together, create homemade cards for children at your local hospital.

  3. Good job ... whether your 6 or 60 giving is always a blessing... and  yes there are restricton on age limitation  in most states and thats a shame .........since your  finance is not where you would like it to  be there are plenty of ways yourl ittle 6yr.old can contribute since  she like teddy bears and buying them is not an option she can make them example: go to your local fabric store  or any where fabric are sold  most places its only a $1.00 or so for a yard of cloth and maybe $2.00 for bag of cotton(pollyfill) and if you like its cost  less than $1.00 for the glue on eyes, have your little 6yr old draw  on a sheet of paper 2 teddy bears a front view and a back view  about hand size, and have her to cut them out or yourself cut them out ,  take the cut out bears and then have her to trace them onto the fabfric and cut them out if  or you cut  them out if you  allow her to use scissors  (you probably can get about 10 bears outof the yard of fabric and heres where you(parent) come in at( take a simple thread and neddle  or sewing maching- if you sew and sew  the 2 teddybears to gether leaving and opening in the head to stuff the bears and let  your little6yrs old stuff the bears  ( that way its still her project)  you may have to help with the feet and the arms , you can simply  push the cotton in with a pencil or pen or straw .etc. , once its stuffed close up the opening in  the head clue the eyes on and you can draw a mouth  and nose or if you like you can glue  some  thread in a shape of a smile ( get creative I'm sure theres a lot of thing around your home that you can uuse to bring life to a teddy bear face . ..

and the second option is  that you can do  with out using much money you can have   your 6yrs old draw teddybear  and frame them  and  hand them out .. just a few bucks go purchase  some construction paper or printer paper, crayons or color markers and go to you local dollar store and but the cheap frames...enjoy!!!!

  4. Why don't you suggest to your daughter about having her friends and classmates getting teddy bears to give to sick kids....speak to her teacher just to give her a heads up! That way when she brings it up at school she will be in charge of the project. I hope she keeps her caring heart when she grows up the world needs people like her! Good luck!

  5. She can make darling, handmade "Get Well Cards" for the children at the hospital. They could always use a "pick me up". You can visit the following website for lots of great ideas...
