Where can a beginning Life Insurance agent find good leads?

The small agency I work with buys expensive leads but they are not good. I am almost ready to give up as an agent because the leads are also few and far between. I need some steady prospects but don't really want to give up this agency! What should I do? I have suggested leadsclearance and leadsauction but he insists on using the lead sources he has. They don't cost ME except in gas and time when they don't yeild results.

  1. Ask your agency manager if he has any "orphan" policyholders that you can call to arrange an insurance review.

An "orphan" policyholder is one who doesn't have a current agent assigned to that account, or an account which hasn't been serviced for quite awhile.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ask for referred leads, whether you write business on your current interview or not. You best business will come from referred leads.

Don't give up. Ask your manager to help you. He/she makes an override on your sales. The more business you place, the more commissions you AND your manager make. He or she is not there to let you fail.

If you have been assigned a book of business to service, there is a multitude of accounts available to work from.

Get in touch with people YOU know, then people THEY know, and people THEY know. If you get only three referred leads from each person you talk with, you will have an ENDLESS supply of leads.

Example of how to get referred leads:

"Mr. Johnson, the best thing I like about my job is meeting new people, and helping them by providing a FREE service in giving them the opportunity to determine, in their own minds, their total insurance needs." "Is that a photo of you son (or daughter)? Where do they live? I'd like an opportunity to meet them. What's their phone number?"

(After each of these questions, pause to allow time for the answer)

Who do you know that just got married? Who do you know that just had a new baby? Who do you know that just got a new job? Who do you know that has just bought a new home?

Moved into the area; just bought a new car; just retired; getting ready to retire; just got a promotion or raise; just became a grandparent; owns a business; has several employees; just "getting by"; would like to retire comfortably, without having to worry; has bank CD's (annuity prospect)? Who do you know that has a loving family, and if the breadwinner should die, would have a tough time making ends meet?

There are so many ways to get referred leads. Be creative.

Plan your work...work your plan. They who fail to plan...plan to fail.

I would be interested in knowing how this works for you.

    Picture this:

There was a cartoon being circulated, about a pelican and a frog. The pelican had the frog in it's beak, about to swallow him. But the frog's "arms" were still outside the pelican's beak, with it's "hands" in a choke hold around the pelican's neck.

The moral of the cartoon is....NEVER GIVE UP.

    Best wishes, and God bless.

  2. Do you have to use their leads?  Talk to friends, neighbors, heck anybody you meet give them a card and tell them you are now in the field.  Have a little bit ready to hook them as to why they should have life insurance.  Get your own leads, then they will follow you and give you better referrals.
