Question:

Where can a mom change her son at a public swimming pool?

I've never taken my son to the pool before and I'm thinking about going this weekend. I know they have locker rooms for boys/guys but I'm not allowed in there to change him. Where can I go to change him? Can I bring him into the girls' locker room? I want to change him there because I don't want to get the car wet after he swims. Also, what's proper etiquette while I'm there? Do you usually keep your kids private areas covered in the changing room or is it okay to have it exposed?

  1. You can take him in the women's locker room; it's really OK. If there are other adult women there and no kids, I would not worry so much about his private areas, assuming he's baby/toddler. If your child is older than that OR if there are other children (girls) in there, out of respect of the other mothers or for your own child, I'd change him in a bathroom stall, or if they have showers you can change him in one of those.

  2. Its okay, as long as he isn't looking at naked people. You could try family washrooms or come there changed. If he wants, you could put a towel over him or change in a separate area/bathroom.

    Have fun swimming!

  3. I think depending on how old your son is, should let you know if it is ok to take him into the woman side of the locker room.

My daughter is 2 yrs old, and when we are out I take her into the mens room with me.

Ive seen people changing thier children in the locker rooms, usually just have everything ready to go so when thier child gets naked, its is only for a matter of moments. Also, alot of parents will hold a towel up around the child, if they can dress themselves.

I think most people respect the single parent, and know that this is pretty much one of the only options they have, so it is not like there are going to be people hovering near you and your child, most will make it a point to look the other way say to speak.

  4. Just bring him in the women's locker room with you. No one will think twice of it. You can even go into a bathroom stall if you're worried about "privacy".

  5. Bring him into the womens bathroom and just change him in the bathroom.

  6. yeah its fine to bring him in with u up to age 5. think about it, youve seen it before and u didnt even think twice about it. no one cares as long as THE KID IS NOT LOOKING AT OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE CHANGING OR RUNNING AROUND!!! you can show his privites hes a kid!! i see it all the time,,im not like looking though but its hard to not notice a butt naked kid haha

  7. If your son is young enough that you are concerned about him going into the men's room alone, then he's young enough that no one is going to say anything if you take him in the women's locker room.  For one thing, women don't usually walk around a locker/changing room NAKED like men do (at least in my experience).  I was always on swim teams and then I was a lifeguard.  I've spent a lot of time in locker rooms, and I've never heard of anyone making a big deal out of little boys being in there.  It will depend a little bit on the facilities and the activity of the locker room too.  Don't worry about it, and don't feel like he has to sit in his wet drawers all the way home.

  8. I usually just throw a towel down on his carseat and take my son home wet... but if I have to change him there I take him in the women's room with me. No one has ever said anything and we don't change clothes out in the open- there are bathroom stalls.

  9. It depends on how old he is.  Also, most pools, if not all, have family changing rooms for this very dilemma.

  10. That depends on his age.  I would just put a towel down on the seat if he is not old enough to change himself.
