  1. In nearly all states, you can't. You say pre-teen so I take it that means that you are not quite a teen therefore you can't legally work at a "regular" job. There are some exceptions, such as in the entertainment business & such. Look at your state's Dept. Of Labor & Workforce website & you can find out the exceptions.

    In general, a work permit (In Massachusetts) is required for teens between the ages of 14-17 (download application from DOL website or get one from school). 14 & 15 year olds ONLY have to also get medical clearance from a doctor, 16 & 17 year olds don't. You fill out application, have doctor sign (if 14/15), then also have parent sign. Then you bring it to the SUPERINTENDANT's OFFICE of the school system in your town (NOT your school). That's the only place you can get one in Massachusetts. You must also bring in your birth certificate OR a passport.


  2. i think you can get your work permit at ur local city hall, just ask where canu get one once u ener the building. Bring soc sec card, proof of adress, some form of id etc the works.
