I am an American living in Germany for a while and would like to have "American" car insurance. I did have insurance with Germans, but....lets just say they are not the ones I want to continue business with. Any suggestions about insurance companies that can do their magic overseas and at a considerable low price.... PLEASE HELP...

  1. You cannot have insurance with a company that is not licenced in Germany.  If you are not military, you are no different from any German civilian, and have to buy from the same companies available to them.

    Also, a good resource is...

    Best of luck to you.

  2. Geico: http://www.geico.com/information/aboutin...

and a smaller company (The Insurance Exchange Online):

Please let us know your experience with them.

  3. You need to have insurance thru a company licensed to sell insurance in Germany.  There are 100's of them.  You will not be able to register you car without insurance.  Germany takes car insurance very very seriously.  do NOT think about driving without it.

The reason the cost is so high is that Germans have lots of accidents and do lots of damage.

  4. You're not going to find an American insurance company willing - or able - to write a personal lines insurance policy for a car that's valid in Germany.

Sorry, you're stuck with German insurance.
